Stellies Unveil Latest Signing

Stellenbosch have unveiled the signing of Ismaël Olivier Touré from Marumo Gallants ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Touré, 25, has penned a three-year deal with the Cape Winelands outfit, as previously reported by this website last month.

The Ivorian was one of the standout players for Gallants last season in their run to the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final and attracted widespread interest across the DStv Premiership.

But Stellies move quickest to secure his services after the retirement of Lasse Soebich and the expected exit of wonderkid Olwethu Makhanya before the start of the new season.

“Touré is undoubtedly one of the very best defenders in our league and an important signing for our club,” head coach Steve Barker said.

“He showed his qualities throughout last season with Marumo Gallants, including outstanding performances in the Confederations Cup.

“He is a physically commanding centre-back who is good with the ball at his feet, and we believe that he will be a big addition to our squad.”

The former ASEC Mimosas defender is their fourth official signing and will likely form part of a new-look defence with Vusi Sibiya or Athenkosi Mcaba next season which has also been bolstered by the additions of Thabo Moloisane and Basil Mphahlele.
