Mamelodi Sundowns made it six wins from six games to start their 2023/24 DStv Premiership campaign with a 2-0 victory over Polokwane City.
Lucas Ribeiro Costa opened the scoring for the victors from the spot after 12 minutes but the newly promoted side didn’t disgrace themselves as they worked tirelessly throughout.
The Brazilian forward, however, put the game to bed early in the second half within five minutes as he steered home to secure his brace from close range.
Sundowns were in control from that moment and dominated possession, showing their usual composure and endeavour to break teams down for further goals, but it was halted slightly with the late red card for Lebogang Maboe.
The three points took them up to 18, eight ahead of second-placed Golden Arrows with ominous signs for the rest of the season.
Masandawana coach Rulani Mokwena also extended his unbeaten run in the league since his appointment as sole head coach – with the tactician yet to taste a loss yet.
