Bafana Bafana defender Grant Kekana says they are trying their best to make South Africa proud at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
South Africa progressed the last four of Africa’s elite club competition for the first time since 2000 after a 2-1 penalty shootout win over Cape Verde when the game finished 0-0 during open play.
Ronwen Willaims, the captain was the Man of the Match in a heroic display which Kekana joked he could succeed as the Minister of Finance but when opening up on what the achievements mean to them as a squad he said it feels good, but they have more to do.
“We’ve come a long way, we’ve been through so much as a nation, I can’t explain this feeling but it feels so good,” Kekana said.
“The boys have shown character, determination, and resilience, we’ve been playing for one another and we’ve just been trying to make the country proud, it’s been a while since the people had something to smile about and we’re happy we’re able to bring some sort of a smile to them.
“We know it’s not the end but it feels good, we’ll celebrate today and then it’s back to business again tomorrow.”
Bafana and Nigeria will face of at the Stade Laurent Pokou on Wednesday (19h00).
