Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has confirmed that he considered calling TS Galaxy defender Khulumani Ndamane in the final squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin, however had to withdraw the player because he didn’t have a passport.
The centre-back has played 18 league matches this season, helping the Rockets rise steadily on the Betway Premiership table to fifth place.
Meanwhile South Africa are heading into the matches, sitting in second position in qualifying Group C with seven points in four matches.
Speaking at the announcement for the squad for the matches, Broos also addressed Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi and in general clubs who seemingly complain about the lack of representation in the national team, saying it’s not the first time he is hindered by a player’s lack of travelling documents.
“Ndamane from Galaxy, he was with the team but he doesn’t have a passport,” said Broos on SABC1.
“I heard the chairman saying in the beginning of the week of last week that I have to take more players of Galaxy. I want to take them but they don’t have passports. So I’m very sorry about that and it’s not the first time.
“I think we have to look for a solution and to make a list of 40 players and send it to the clubs and ask them, there will be a call-up please those players need to have a passport.
“I think he [Ndamane] still has to go to the embassy or I don’t know where would you have to go for the passport and then it will only be next week before he gets the passport. And then he doesn’t have a visa for Ivory Coast.
“So it’s impossible, but those guys are losing a cap or a selection with the national team because they are not in order. We begged the preliminarists two weeks ago. They know that they are on that list, if you don’t have a passport go and get a passport.”
