Mamelodi Sundowns’ Ugandan goalkeeper Denis Onyango has announced his retirement from International Football.

Onyango, who turns 36 next month, confirmed the news on Twitter this evening.

He earned 82 caps for his country in a international career that last 16 years. He made his debut back in 2015, in a World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde.

Co-incidentally Onyango announced it on the day he played against fellow Ugandan goalkeeper Rashied Watenga as Sundowns beat Chippa United 2-1. Watenga, who has 13 caps, is seen as one of the successors to Onyango.

Uganda failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations finals last month, when they lost 1-0 to Malawi in the final qualifying game.
