Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze has confirmed there has been an official change for the club captain, with Brandon Petersen taking the role.
Following the exit of Yusuf Maart, the role was shared between Inacio Miguel and Zitha Kwinika in recent weeks, with the armband literally rotating between the two defenders.
However, Petersen was notably wearing the armband on Wednesday evening in the 0-0 draw against Siwelele at FNB Stadium – which took their winless run in the league to four games.
“We decided as technical staff, to make Petersen the captain, going forward,” Kaze briefly explained.
Petersen has kept seven clean sheets in 11 games across all competitions this season, conceding six goals.
Kaze also analysed his side’s goalless draw against second-from-bottom Siwelele, saying they were once again let down by their finishing.
“I feel like we struggled a little bit passively, especially in our defensive phase where we didn’t put enough pressure on the centre-backs, on the goalkeeper, allowing them too much time on the ball,” he explained.
“But offensively we were sharp, we had ideas and we got opportunities to score, opportunities to get inside the box, opportunities to get the last pass. We had shots, we did everything.
“In the second half we started very well, the first 20 minutes with a good tempo, good intensity, change of speed – we got opportunities to score. We didn’t and with the injury of Mayo, the last 15 minutes we played with one man down and think about salvaging the point.”
