Jose Mourinho will be the new manager of AS Roma from 2021/22, the club announced on Tuesday.

The Portuguese tactician was fired by Tottenham Hotspur in April and has since been linked with a host of clubs.

However, Roma confirmed on Tuesday that Mourinho has signed a three-year deal with the club after announcing earlier in the day that Paulo Fonseca will leave by the end of the current campaign.

“We are thrilled and delighted to welcome José Mourinho into the AS Roma family,” club president Dan Friedkin and vice-president Ryan Friedkin told the club’s official website.

“A great champion who has won trophies at every level, José will provide tremendous leadership and experience to our ambitious project.

“The appointment of José is a huge step in building a long-term and consistent winning culture throughout the club.”

Roma will be Mourinho’s second high-profile club in Italy after he was in charge of Inter Milan between 2008 and 2010, winning the treble before he joined Real Madrid.
