Siwelele FC head coach Lehlohonolo Seema has backed Orlando Pirates to go all the way to the death in challenging Mamelodi Sundowns for the league title this season.
The former Pirates captain took two valuable points off the Buccaneers at the Orlando Amstel Arena with a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon – where Tshepang Moremi cancelled out Vincent Pule’s first half strike.
It could prove a damaging result in the context of the title race, as Sundowns, who have won seven consecutive league games now, take on Marumo Gallants on Tuesday – where victory will see them go two points ahead of Pirates and back at the summit.
“Pirates are a good team and I think they will push until the last game to challenge for the title,” Seema told SuperSport TV.
“Let’s get to 30 points, so that the season can finish – come next season we will build a new team that will challenge better in Jozi.”
While Sundowns are chasing a ninth consecutive title and Pirates are targeting a third trophy for the 2025/26 season, it’s a case of laying foundations for Seema at Siwelele.
“As Siwelele, last week… Samkelo Zwane started and we had some other players who weren’t even here today, we’re trying to manage the players and give others a chance,” he said about the young talents being afforded chances of late.
“For the youngsters, our DDC team has done very well, so I was telling them to celebrate with our supporters after this fight – when or lose, we are together. So if they are doing well, I will put them in and they did well, I think.”
