Broos Announces Final Squad To Face Panama

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has named the final 23-man squad for the upcoming two games against Panama in South Africa.

South Africa face the North American side in Durban and Cape Town in two weeks time as preperation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup – where they open the global event against hosts Mexico.

South Korea and the one of the European play-off winners will round off Group A, where Bafana are still in the process of finding the final pieces of their squad that were knocked out of the last-16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Broos notably dropped Sipho Mbule and Siyabonga Ngezana from the preliminary squad that was on duty in AFCON, with the lack of game-time from the Orlando Pirates midfielder and injury issues for the defender key to his decision-making.

The big news on Thursday, was the exclusion of Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine, with Renaldo Leaner included in his space. Meanwhile, Themba Zwane, Jayden Adams, Bongokuhle Hlongwane and Thapelo Maseko are among those who returned to the squad.

They host Panama on Friday 27 March at Moses Mabhida Stadium, before the second fixture four days later at the DHL Stadium in the Mother City.
