Mamelodi Sundowns legend Surprise Moriri has expressed full confidence in the Brazilians’ ability to clinch the Betway Premiership title, despite a recent stumble in the league.
Speaking in Leipzig, where a Sundowns delegation received a tour of Red Bull Leipzig’s facilities ahead of the German club’s end-of-season visit to South Africa, Moriri backed the current squad to see out the campaign strongly.

Masandawana dropped valuable points against Stellenbosch, with a 1-1 draw at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday, but Moriri insists the title race remains firmly in Masandawana’s hands in their riveting battle against Orlando Pirates.
The Buccaneers, who face Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday in the Soweto Derby, are one point ahead of The Brazilians’ – albeit having played one league fixture more.
“I’ve got full trust in the boys, so far we have the upper-hand, I know we dropped points, but we still have a couple of games to go, we have the endurance, we know how to be able to go all the way, especially in the last couple of games,” Moriri said.
The club legend acknowledged that the run-in will be anything but straightforward, with opponents fighting for their own objectives at opposite ends of the table presenting a danger Sundowns cannot afford to underestimate.
“I know it’s going to be very intense, teams who are fighting relegation, some for top eight, it won’t be easy, but I know with the experience our boys gained in CAF and the depth in the squad, I think we will be able to make sure we compete until the last game and hopefully we can lift this one also,” he added.
Sundowns’ CAF Champions League campaign – which has seen them reach the final against ASFAR – has been cited by Moriri as a source of character and experience the squad will draw on as the domestic season reaches its climax.
RB Leipzig are scheduled to face Sundowns on 30 May at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville as part of their South African end-of-season tour.
