They are now R7 million richer and have also thus qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
After losing the Nedbank final in 2017/18 as Maritzburg United to Free State Stars, City finally captured the trophy that has eluded them for close to a decade.
City rallied from a goal down to edge Galaxy. The Rockets went in front through Jean Lwamba Lubumba’s own goal in the 43rd minute.
Mfanafuthi Mkhize equalised in the 58th minute before Lubumba turned from villain to hero with the winner in the 71st minute.
Speaking to SuperSport TV after the match, Dladla took the time to instead take the spotlight away from him to extend gratitude to everyone at the KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit.
“Congratulations to the players; we’ve got a group of players that is resilient. A group of players that’s got a never-die attitude,” he said.
“For me, it’s just to thank them. We’ve been through tough games and we had that belief that we’ll do it.
“I also want to thank the technical team, coach Ashraf Hendricks, coach Rowen Fernandez, our conditioning guys – Michael, Amo. Our medical team, Alex, everybody. Our kit manager Zola, our logistics manager Manzini. All of them.
“Mamzo at the training grounds, our ground man Lunga, everyone contributed.
“I know our Chairman, GM, they will thank the other partners because they also supported us through this journey, word of encouragement, resources being injected in this project.
“But, at the end of the day, we wouldn’t have made it if our supporters were not here.
“I’m looking there [at the supporters in the stands], I feel like I’m in Chatsworth Stadium.”
