Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt was left fuming and questioned the quality of his defence after conceding two goals from standard situations.
Stellenbosch suffered their first home defeat under Hunt since arriving in December. The Cape Winelands lost 2-0 to Orlando Pirates, conceding the two goals from a free-kick and a cross by Patrick Maswanganyi.
The loss saw Stellies losing a step in their fight for the top eight finish which is something Hunt was targeting after saving the club from relegation. The Winelands side is currently sitting in 10th place with 32 points.
After the match, Hunt was spitting fire stating that some players don’t deserve to be there and also went hard on the centre-backs stating that they don’t want to head the ball.
“We didn’t expect to concede goals from those situation, if the centre-back doesn’t want to head the ball, we have a problem, Hunt told SuperSport TV.
“But we’ve done well with the players we’ve got it’s been absolutely a miracle what we’ve done in general.
“We not gonna compete with these teams right now, but we will next year that’s for sure. There’s a lot of players that shouldn’t be here. We’ve done unbelievably well to be where we are, we’ve got three games left like I said we competed nicely with this team.
“But we didn’t expect to concede like that, but like I said the centre-backs don’t want to head the ball, we got a problem.”
