Chicago Fire goalkeeper Chris Brady has spoken highly of his South African teammate Mbekezeli Mbokazi, praising the defender’s seamless transition into the Major League Soccer (MLS) setup.
The talented duo were recently named in the prestigious MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 14 after they put on a stellar defensive display to help the Fire secure a crucial 2-0 away victory over CF Montréal.
Brady admitted that he has been completely blown away by how quickly the former Orlando Pirates defender has adapted to the demands of the new team, a completely new league, and life in a new country.
The American shot-stopper did not hold back in his admiration for Mbokazi’s immediate impact on the pitch.
He stated that the left-footed South African centre-back is undoubtedly one of the most exciting talents to keep an eye on in the league.
“We call him ‘Mbo’. Right away when he got here, usually players take a couple of weeks to adjust to a new team, new style,” Brady said.
“He came right on and just started killing it, killing the opponents. He’s really impressed me because he took little to no time to adapt, especially being in a new country.
“Yeah, he’s just been in a new country and all that. Just like I said, he does it every [match]. He’s someone to keep an on.”
Mbokazi is part of the Bafana Bafana squad that will compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is being hosted across the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
