Former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani has made a discovery of Bafana Bafana fielding 12 players including the goalkeeper in their friendly warm-up match against Nicaragua.
Despite dominating proceedings and missing a spot kick, South Africa were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by the 131st-ranked side at Orlando Amstel Arena on Friday night.
In the 67th minute, head coach Hugo Broos made a host of changes and it turned out that the home side played with one extra player.
Hlungwani has since provided proof that South Africa gained a player advantage in the later stages of the game though that did little impact on the outcome of the match.
“Bafana Bafana played with 12 players,” ‘The Principal’ said on Soccerzone.
“As play goes to continue, we will see how 12 players are in the field of play.
“You can see the ball is in play, but how many players of Bafana Bafana there?
“When we count, we see 11 plus the goalkeeper, so that means it is 12.

“Does the law allow a team to play with 12 players? No, under Law 3, which is the player.
“If a goal was scored, that goal was going to be disallowed especially if that player interfered with play.”
However, the situation was rectified around a minute later when Ime Okon left the pitch to make the numbers even again.
