iDiski TV analyst Junior Khanye believes Bafana Bafana defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi will not stay too long at his current club Chicago Fire following his brilliant performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Khanye’s comments come on the back on South Africa’s elimination from the global showpiece co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico.
It was a historic outing for Hugo Broos’ men where they qualified for the second round for the first time in the team’s history at the tournament. However, they lost 1-0 to Canada in the last 32 round to exit the tournament on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Mbokazi has been picked by most as one of the outstanding players in the Bafana squad even in the game against the Canadians where he made crucial clearances.
Khanye doesn’t see the 20-year-old staying too long at the MLS outfit that he joined in January saying there is no denying the centre-back’s qualities.
“Mbekezeli Mbokazi, they’ll be lucky if the boy stays at Chicago,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.
“Maybe he can stay for another season but I’m sure the boy has made a name for himself. The boy helped us a lot we could have lost this game [against Canada] by two or three goals.
“There’s a ball he cleared off the goal line in the second half. If you check how we covers he’s like a wiper. The way he reads the game and usually players who can do this are midfielders, clever, talented players so skilful.
“And the boy is so gifted that at his age, his anticipation, how he reads the game is so clever, very strong. He wins his battles, aerial balls too, a very clever player. He also covered [Ime] Okon a lot.”
