Kaizer Chiefs have learnt which opponents they will face in the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederations Cup.
The draw for the preliminary stages took place in Egypt this afternoon, with Chiefs and Durban City entering the draw for the Confed Cup as third-placed team in the Betway Premiership and Nedbank Cup winners, respectively.
While Durban City are newbies to the competition, Chiefs return after making the group stages last season – where they missed out on the knockout stages by the slightest of margins. But their recent record in CAF Interclub-competitions saw Amakhosi receive a bye in the first preliminary round.
Overall, eight teams were exempted from the first preliminary round, namely: Al Ahly, Azam, USMA, ASFAR, CR Belouizdad, Raja CA, AS Maniema and Chiefs.
This campaign, Amakhosi will have to overcome the winners of the tie between Red Arrows from Zambia and FC Rouge from Madagascar to qualify for the group stages.
Meanwhile, City enter the first round and will face Rukinzo FC from Burundi.
The first preliminary round first legs will be played between 4-6 September, while the return fixtures will be played a week later between 11-13 September.
The second preliminary round will then take place from 16-18 October, and the returns legs on 23-25 October.
Matchday on of the group stages is scheduled for 27-29 November.
