Kaizer Chiefs have intensified their interest in Stellenbosch FC winger Faiz Abrahams, and are understood to be working on a loan deal for the player.
Abrahams, 21, has come through Cape Town Spurs academy, with the highlight of winning Player of the Tournament in the U19 Bayhill Premier Cup in 2024.
‘Fire’ as he is known by peers made a move to Stellenbosch FC in August that year but struggled to make a breakthrough in the starting line-up.
After the first season at Stellies, he was loaned out to Israeli side Hapoel Kfar Saba, where he impressed with three goals and three assists in 11 appearances. He impressed so much that he was being tracked by Israeli giants Maccabi Haifa and Tel Aviv but was then convinced by an agent to not go back with promises he will take him to a better leagues.
He then returned to South Africa halfway through his loan, going AWOL from the club and Stellies needed to pay a fee to terminate the loan or risk they player facing a ban due to breach of contract.
Since making a return, he has only played 26 minutes. In the current transfer window, the 21-year-old has been wanted by two Betway Premiership sides, Orlando Pirates and Durban City.
The Buccaneers were aiming for a permanent move but never reached an agreement with Stellenbosch, while Durban City were close to securing Abrahams on a season-long loan but the move collapsed after the player failed to reach an agreement.
Chiefs are the latest side to show interest, and have already engaged with Stellenbosch regarding Fire.
Amakhosi are currently weighing up their options, with a loan the likely solution. An agreement between Chiefs and Stellenbosch is understood not to be a stumbling block, but the player still needs to agree on personal terms with Chiefs.
