Wydad Athletic Club missed the deadline to submit paperwork for Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana before their transfer window shut which ended his potential move to Morocco.

Mokwana, 27, is currently a free agent after parting ways with Esperance Sportive de Tunis and was swiftly in talks over a prospective switch to the Moroccan capital with the Casablanca giants.

Talks were progressing earlier this week and looked poised to be completed before the club missed the deadline to submit paperwork and outside the window, sources confirm it becomes ‘complicated’ to register new signings.

Reports in Morocco suggest that Wydad were also chasing the services of former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Percy Tau in recent weeks, however, it’s been said the former Bafana Bafana vice-captain rejected the approach.

It remains to be seen what transpired between the club and Mokwana now – with iDiski Times sources confirming there’s been contact made by club’s in Algeria, Egypt, Libya and in South Africa.

During his time in Tunisia, he featured 38 times for Esprance, scoring seven goals with four assists before spending last season on loan in the Saudi Pro League with Al Hazem.
