Broos Discusses Adams’ Bafana Punishment

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos admits that he had to punish Stellenbosch FC midfielder Jayden Adams for his ‘bad behaviour’.

Adams missed out on the last Bafana camp for the back-to-back 2025 AFCON Qualifiers against Congo Brazzaville after he was released from camp for alleged bad behaviour.

The Stellies midfield maestro has once again been left out of the Bafana squad that will travel to Uganda for the qualifying match and the South Sudan clash that will take place in Cape Town.

Adams has been struggling to play regularly at Stellenbosch as he was suspended after receiving a red card; after returning from that suspension, he received a yellow card which was the fourth one for the season, meaning he will miss another local upcoming game for the Winelands side.

“I talked already before about attitude,” Broos told the media.

“If you don’t have the right attitude, you can have much as much talent as you want you will never achieve a big career, never!

“It’s totally normal that he makes mistakes. The only thing I hope he learns about his mistakes, so I punish him. I see that after the camp he has a little bit of trouble playing for Stellenbosch that has to have a reason, that means I think that the coach is not really happy with his attitude also.

“Again, if he learns about that then there is no problem and I hope that he learns about it, and I hope he knows that having talent is not enough.

“You need to have the right attitude, and it should be a pity that he spoils his career by not having the right attitude. So, we have to help him because he is a young player.

“So, because he is not there now, because he was not there in the last camp, I hope for him it’s a wakeup call, and the fact that he doesn’t play at Stellenbosch that is also a wakeup call.”
