Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau is among a host of first-team stars ruled out for Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly squad for their EPL Cup tournament opener.
Tau, along with Yasser Ibrahim, LuÃs Miquissone, Ahmed Nabil and Ahmed Abdelkader have all tested positive for Covid-19, the club’s team doctor Ahmed Abu Abla confirmed to the official website.
Abla revealed the players have been instructed to self-isolate while being carefully monitored by the medical staff after their routine Covid-19 tests this weekend.
The inaugural EPL Cup that kicks off on Thursday against El Gouna has seen Ahly drawn against five other Egyptian Premier League rivals – with all 18 teams competing whilst the Africa Cup of Nations are ongoing in Cameroon.
Three of the Group winners will advance to the semi-final alongside the best second-placed team in the group stages.
