Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Fabian McCarthy has revealed that Pitso Mosimane paid for their 2013 CAF B Course and gave them free coaching advice.
McCarthy played for Amakhosi in the early 2000s and had a bright career as he won some of the biggest trophies with the famous black and gold including a league title. He has now moved to be an analyst on SuperSport TV but also did his coaching courses.
He had the privilege and the honour to meet Mosimane back in 2013 during their CAF B Course where “Jingles” decided to pay most of the fees for the course.
McCarthy, speaking to iDiski Times senior reporter Rob Delport, in edition 183, explained what Pitso did and how after then gave them advice when it comes to coaching as he has seen it all as a coach having coached at national team level and club level.
“Did you know Pitso paid for our 2013 CAF B Course? Almost like 90% of those course fees and stuff. Everyone!” McCarthy told iDiski Times.
“We had to just pay for the catering, but minimum, very minimum so. And one day, when he made a speech, he said, ‘Guys, you have to pay your dues. You have to start coaching ABC or coaching at school, organizing the kit, organizing the water bottles, organizing the game, see to everything’.
“Like myself, I mean, I coach primary school, I coach high school, I coach at a University, and now I’ve been having holiday camps, school tournaments, different age groups.
“I kind of have that idea, but now that I have a licence, I can now say strictly I want a Diski team, or I want to be a second assistant coach or first assistant in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, but I’m not going to take a job or go into a job because of my stomach.”
