COSAFA will be introducing the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system for the Hollywoodbets COSAFA Women’s Championship that will be played in Gauteng until 15 October.
With the kickoff of the COSAFA Cup in South Africa today, the African women’s tournament confirmed on Monday that VAR will be used, starting from the semi-finals, with the hope of using it for the whole tournament in future.
Dobsonville Stadium, Lucas Moripe Stadium and UJ Stadium will be hosting the tournament, which will take 14 days.
The tournament committee aims to use VAR more in the future, not just from the semis only.
Zambia are the defending champions having beaten South Africa 1-0 in the final at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium last time around.
