Football Kenya Federation suspended Kakamega Homeboyz FC goalkeeper Patrick Matasi after allegedly being involved in match-fixing.
In the past few days there has been a video of Kenyan National team and Kakamega Homeboyz FC goalkeeper Matasi circulating where he is in discussion with some people on how he will concede goals. Matasi was not part of Benni McCarthy’s squad that recently participated in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Gambia and Gabon.
The veteran goalkeeper was last in the Harambee Stars squad while playing AFCON qualifiers in October 2024, where he conceded four goals against Cameroon away from home. He was dropped for the return leg, and Kenya lost 1-0. Stars failed to qualify for the AFCON, and seemingly, their chance to qualify for the FIFA World Cup are slim.
FKF released a statement last night regarding the matter and suspended the goalkeeper for 90 days, it remains unclear yet which game was being fixed but several clips have surfaced online citing questionable goalkeeping errors.
