Bafana Bafana secured a 1-0 win over the Democratic Republic of Congo courtesy of a Lyle Foster goal at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The much-changed Bafana line-up featured Zakhele Lepasa, Foster, Percy Tau and Milhali Mayambela as an attacking front-four shield by Mlungisi Mbunjana and Bathusi Aubaas.
And South Africa looked lively against an equally attacking set-up led by in-form Brentford striker Yoane Wissa.
But it was the performance of Ricardo Goss, who made five saves in the game and the industry of Foster, which proved pivotal in their result.
The Burnley striker, who is fast emerging as the attacking talisman for Hugo Broos’ side netted his fourth goal in his 11th cap in the opening half, which proved to be that added quality of the encounter that separated the two sides.
As they have now gone nine games without defeat under Broos, it proved to be the morale-boosting result as the head coach promised would be the case to end the camp off.
South Africa last tasted defeat under the Belgian in their 2-1 defeat in Rabat to Morocco in June 2021 for their opening 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Up next in October will be their final preparation games for the AFCON and 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers when they face eSwatini at home and hosts Ivory Coast away.
