Ghana legend and all-time record goalscorer Asamoah Gyan has revealed his devastation of the Black Stars early exit from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana bowed out of the tournament on Tuesday evening with one point after a shock 3-2 defeat at the hands of tournament debutants Comoros Islands.
It marked the first AFCON Gyan has not been part of the squad since he made his international debut back in 2003.
“I’m devastated, I’m shocked,” he said on SuperSport TV after the defeat to Comoros.
“You can never win a game with this kind of attitude, we saw the real Ghana when we went down to ten men, they tried to give everything which was good but wasn’t enough.
“We didn’t have the sense of urgency through the whole tournament, we had ten players, I’m upset – why do you have to push when you have ten men instead of when you have 11?
“I can’t understand… I’ve been in the game a long time, it’s one of those things. I’m very disappointed, we didn’t play with determination, with any ambitions.
“What else can I say? We lost, we’re going home, every in Ghana will be disappointed but honestly if we go home – what Algeria is doing right now? They create chances and lose a game.
“But we didn’t create chances, we didn’t do anything and we going home. That’s where people will be disappointed, you have to give people something to talk about.
“We didn’t give anything to talk about, how will people feel back home? We shouldn’t have gone out and we didn’t see the Ghana we know.”
The 36-year-old scored 51 goals in 109 caps for the senior Ghana national team while featuring at eight consecutive AFCONS.
