Munetsi Pays Tribute To Khoza For His Meteoric Rise

Stade de Reims and Zimbabwe defensive midfielder Marshall Munetsi has revealed that Orlando Pirates club chairman Dr Irvin Khoza told him he has what it takes to make it in football.

Munetsi made a return to Orlando Stadium since his big-money move to the French Ligue 1 five years ago. It wasn’t a glorious one though for the former Pirates man as Zimbabwe suffered a shock 2-0 defeat to Lesotho in their Group C 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, before a thumping 3-1 loss at the hands of Bafana Bafana.

Speaking to iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu in edition 158 of the newspaper, Munetsi, who was at Mayfair between 2017 and 2019, shared his gratitude to the club and the role they played in his career. The 27-year-old also reminisced about people who believed in him at the club including Khoza.

“I wouldn’t be where I am without them,” Munetsi told iDiski Times.

“I remember the very first day that I signed up for Pirates, especially even getting advice from our chairman, Dr Khoza. I remember the things that he taught me, and he also told me that I can make it, you know.

“So me coming back here to this home that has built up my career is something that is emotional, but it’s also something that I can cherish. I have actually been showing some of the guys that here is where I used to do this and that. So it’s also good memories for me.”
