Zamalek have made their fourth head coaching change with the appointment of former Mexico head coach Juan Carlos Osorio amid a turbulent 2022/23 season.
The reigning Egyptian Premier League champions started the season with much promise going into a new era under Jesualdo Ferreira but he’s been sacked twice this season.
Such is the severity of the chaos under the leadership of controversial President Mortada Mansour, who said the struggles of the White Knights are due to him spending one month in prison recently over a verbal tirade against Al Ahly President Mahmoud El Khatib.
A surprise CAF Champions League group stage exit at the hands of CR Belouizdad and Esperance, added to the poor league title defence, has seen Mansour look towards another foreign tactician, who brings a wealth of experience from North America.
The Colombian coach arrived in Cairo this week after talks with German coach Heiko Herrlich broke down with the former Bayer Leverkusen boss suggesting that there’s too much instability on and off the field in order for him to take on the project.
Osorio is set to sign a two-year deal following on from Osama Nabih, and interim coach Ahmed Abdel-Maksoud, who assumed duties between the exits of Ferreira this term.
Zamalek are currently fourth in the Egyptian Premier League, 12 points behind league leaders Al Ahly with 11 rounds of fixtures remaining.
