Broos Explains Ngezana & Bvuma Call-Ups

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has explained why he included Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma and FCSB defender Siyabonga Ngezana in his latest national team squad.

Broos has rung the changes, calling up 10 new names in comparison to his squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Belgian tactician explained that the March friendlies against Algeria and Andorra are a good chance to give some new faces a chance to prove their worth for Bafana, before going more into detail why Bvuma was included.

“Veli didn’t even play so much before AFCON and now he played the last game, but the rest of the games with AmaZulu, he was on the bench,” he said during the announcement on SABC1.

“So he’s also a certain age. So we have to look also for a younger keeper for the next years. And it becomes a good opportunity now to call Bruce.

“Bruce was with us from the beginning I was here. And then as a result of the team, he didn’t play any more for Chiefs and now he played all the game for Chiefs. So I think he deserves a chance.”

Broos also admitted that Ngezana was almost included in his AFCON squad due his great form for FCSB, and has now a chance to cement a position in his defence for the coming years.

“Ngezana was for us a point of discussion for AFCON,” he added.

“We didn’t know very well, do we have to take him with us or not because he was playing very good Romania.

“But he was never with us. And therefore I didn’t want to change for AFCON. But again, he’s playing very good in Romania.

“And it’s nearly a little bit the same story as with Veli Mothwa, Siyabonga has a certain age, so we have to look also for the future. And I think if Ngezana can have the same level he has with his club in Romania, okay, then we are settled again for the next years.”
