Broos Hints At Wholesale Changes For DR Congo Clash

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos says all the players who didn’t feature against Namibia will face DR Congo at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The likes of Percy Tau, Zakhele Lepasa, Mihlali Mayambela, Ronwen Williams and Mothobi Mvala were amongst those left out completely and will definitely start.

And Broos, reflecting on the 0-0 draw against Namibia on Saturday says they achieved their goal in that game to offer chances to players his yet to see in Bafana colours but there’s a new mindset for a much stronger side in the form of Congo.

“The most important thing was to play them, see them, as I said in the past just because you’re a good player at your club or one of the best players in your club, that you can be a good Bafana player, this is a level higher,” he said.

“It’s a pity we couldn’t score… but the goal of the game was achieved, seeing the players and judging the players before the future.”

The DRC, led by Sebastien Desabre secured their place at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations this weekend with their 2-0 win over Sudan and arrive in a buoyant mood, and Broos said they will treat it as a competitive fixture, that’s now a must-win after the Brave Warriors draw.

“Tomorrow is a new opponent, different style, also qualified for AFCON, they qualified against Sudan, it’s a better team than Namibia, more quality so I think it will be a nicer game to watch on Saturday, two teams who will be playing for a win.

“The result is important, we’ve changed our mindset now, I can’t tell you the performance is more important now, we’re looking for a result against Congo, we have to see that we can win that game, I can’t end a camp with a draw and defeat, not at all.

“For the players, there will be another mindset, it won’t be the same team, that’s for sure, As I said we’re following the plans of before this camp – so everyone will have their game time, those who didn’t play on Saturday will be in the team.

“It will be a different team, I expect more tomorrow of that team, I want to see Bafana that we saw against Morocco, against Liberia one half here at Orlando, I want to see that team again. We’re playing for a victory that’s for sure.”

He continued: “I won’t be happy if we play like Saturday. That was about giving instructions and seeing if they can do it, so if you can do it, there’s no problem but it’s not the case tomorrow.

“Tomorrow they play against a good team and I want to see what I saw against Motocco, playing good football, creating chances and winning a game. My mindset will also be different tomorrow, I will be more angry if I see the same things I saw on Saturday.

“I will push the players more when it;s not good, I couldn’t be severe to players [making their debuts] for Bafana, they were already [nervous] but I gave them the chances to play and I was [relaxed] but I won’t be like that tomorrow, it will be different.”
