Foster Opens Up On ‘Special’ Monyane Connection

Burnley and Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster has described his relationship with Thabiso Monyane and the fact that both made it to national team level as super special.

Monyane, 23, made his Bafana debut in the goalless draw against Namibia, while Foster already debuted in 2018.

Both players came through the Augusto Palacios Academy before joining Orlando Pirates youth ranks, having known each other since they were children.

After Broos called up Monyane to the national senior team squad, Foster and Monyane reunited, with the Burnley striker opening up on their “special” relationship.

“He is super-special, Monyane,” he told reporters.

“I think we played together since the age of 12. He is super fast, he was one of South Africa’s fastest sprinters in our age group, but Palacious brought him to play football.

“He actually lived at my house for a year. We slept in the same bed, went to the same school.

“So being able to represent the country together is something super-special for the both of us.”

Foster and Monyane have another chance to feature together when South Africa host DR Congo at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday.
