Kekana Makes Percy Tau Claim

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder Hlompho Kekana feels like this is the right time for Percy Tau to show his experience.

Tau returned to the Bafana Bafana squad for the first time in eight months. The 30-year-old last represented the national team when they played against Nigeria and Zimbabwe in June 2024. He missed six matches of the African Cup of Nations qualification.

On his return, Kekana claimed Tau, stating that this was the right time for him to show his experience and use it to the youngsters that are in the national team. He last scored for South Africa in January 2024 against Namibia.

“He wants to do more for Bafana, I think that’s one space where he still wants to do more because he believes he can still do more,” Kekana told iDiski Times.

“This is the right opportunity for him to step in and show his maturity and show his experience of having been around the world. He will try to be the player that we can rely on in terms of big matches. And you know these are important matches that are coming up. And when you have a player like Percy, and the rest of the squad, you stand a chance of doing well.

“You need your best players in Bafana; you need your most experienced players to push you over the line, so having Percy is a plus, and I am confident and believe that if given the opportunity, he will give us the kind of performance that we really want and expect from him.”
