Stellenbosch FC defender Thabo Moloisane is of the notion that a call up to Bafana Bafana is at a higher level compared to the COSAFA Cup squads.
Moloisane has been included in Bafana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers squad against Lesotho, which they won 2-0 on Friday, courtesy of second half strikes from Relebohile Mofokeng and Jayden Adams in Polokwane, and Benin in the Ivory Coast four days later.
The Stellies man who was previously in the COSAFA Cup squad feels more is expected this time around while crediting the experience from the regional tournament as a leg up to understanding what’s really required to be in the team.
“I think the national team with the COSAFA Cup is like you kind of get to know a taste of what it takes to be in the Bafana team,” said Moloisane.
“With Coach Helman there and Coach Sne they made sure that we kind of understand what is required for us to be continuously in the team.
“So, I think it’s not the same to be honest. You know you are at a bigger scale now and more is required from you as a player as well. It’s just for you to give back the confidence that is given to be part of the team.”

The 26-year-old is also banking on the experience he is getting playing with his club in the CAF Confederation Cup against other African teams.
“Look, it’s very important going to a national team having had experience in the continent,” added Moloisane.
“You kind of have a taste of what is required to play at this level and you kind of have a proper judgment of what is expected from you and there’s a lot of challenges playing in the continent.
“So, I think it kind of does fairly give me a chance to being properly prepared for the international stage.”
