Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has announced his final squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Belgian tactician had named a 50-man preliminary squad two weeks ago, but has now cut it down to 23 players as well as three players on stand-by, namely: Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Elias Mokwana and Thapelo Xoki.
He has had some injury issues since with striker Lebo Mothiba ruled out of the tournament, while there had been question marks over Lyle Foster due to his mental health issues.
While he returned to playing, Burnley coach Vincent Kompany had stated Foster shouldn’t be “traveling around the world” and “can’t play” at the AFCON, with Broos not selecting the Orlando Pirates youth product.
Bafana kick off their tournament on 16 January against Mali before facing Namibia and ending the group stages against Tunisia, who are currently the third highest-ranked team in Africa.
Broos and his men will assemble for a training camp in Stellenbosch from 5 January before playing a behind-closed-doors friendly with Lesotho on 10 January.
