Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has discussed what Namibia’s historical win in their Group E opener means for Bafana Bafana against Mali.
The Brave Warriors came up with a historical result, beating Africa’s third-highest ranked team Tunisia 1-0 on Tuesday thanks to a late goal by Orlando Pirates’ Deon Hotto.
Namibia’s victory means Tunisia are under pressure in their next two Group E matches against Mali and South Africa, with Mosimane insisting that the massive surprise also put more pressure on Hugo Broos’ side to get a result against Mali on Tuesday.
“I think you can see what’s going to happen now,” he argued on SuperSport TV.
“We have to do ourselves a favour tonight because we’re all under pressure. Bafana has to win!
“It’s the biggest upset for the whole group, nobody expected that result. Everyone said maybe Tunisia will take it, and then it’s between Mali and South Africa.
“So it’s going to be trouble, but that’s the beauty of the game. The game is not played on paper, the game is played on the green grass.”
Bafana face Mali at the Stade Amadou Gon Coulibali at 22:00 (SAST) on Tuesday evening.
