South Africa advanced to the COSAFA Cup final for the first time since winning the tournament in 2021 after beating Comoros 3-1. They will face Angola on Sunday.
Bafana Bafana’s B side started the semi-final on a high note with Puso Dithejane playing a low cross to Gape Moralo who sent his shot straight to the keep.
But in the eighth minute, an long ball reached Kamogelo Sebelebele and he took on defenders before his attemted chip over the goalkeeper got deflected by Comoros’ Idris Mohamed to make it 1-0.
Just five minutes later Moralo set up Boitumelo Radiopane who calmly slotted home to make it 2-0 with his first ever goal for Bafana.
Comoros pulled one back after 30 minutes via Ibrahim Madi, giving them more confidence and belief. But the crowd in Bloemfontein was in full voice to push Bafana forward.
South Africa then took control of the game once again, as Mduduzi Shabalala set up Kabelo Dlamini who took his shot and hit the upright, with the score remaining 2-1 with two minutes remaining before half-time.
The second half kicked off with Comoros looking to get an equaliser after finishing the first half on the back foot.
But South Africa restored their two-goal cushion following a mistake at the back from Comoros and Sebelebele made no mistake to make it 3-1 in 60th minute – also scoring his first ever Bafana goal.
Matters went from bad to worse for the iselanders when substitue Naimoudine Assane got sent off after receiving a second yellow with 10 minutes to spare.
Vela Khumalo will now take on Angola in the Sunday’s final after the Black Antelopes beat Madagascar 4-1 in the other semi-final earlier.
