Banyana Held In Kinshasa

Banyana Banyana played to 1-1 draw with DR Congo in the first leg of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup (WAFCON) qualifiers at Stade Des Martyrs in Kinshasa on Wednesday evening.

Kgalebane Mohlakoana opened the scoring from a Bonolo Mokoma assist in the 43rd minute and that was cancelled by Ruth Kipoyi Monqinue in injury-time of the opening half.

South Africa could have broken the deadlock through Bongeka Gmaede in the 40th minute but she missed the target from range.

Mokoma also had chance to score soon after Gamede’s attempt but she also missed the target from inside the box.

Lebo Ramalepe had two chances to regain Banyana’s lead in the second half but missed the target on both occasions. Naome Kaba Kaba then had a chance to give the hosts a lead but also missed the target

The return leg of this tie will be played at FNB Stadium next Tuesday where Banyana will need a win or a goalless draw to book a ticket to Morocco next year where they will have an opportunity to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
