Banyana Banyana star Thembi Kgatlana has made a move to Mexican side UANL Tigres in a record deal.
Kgatlana’s deal was confirmed by Racing Louisville on Wednesday.
The six-figure fee is the second-highest in the US National Women’s Soccer League history and the biggest fee Racing have ever received.
“While my time at Racing Louisville was short-lived, I am truly thankful to the fans and the people of Louisville for their support,” Kgatlana was quoted by the club as saying.
“The affection and experience I received at the club will always be a big part of my life and career. I am sure we will cross paths again in the future.”
It was a short second spell in the USA, where Kgatlana scored twice and made two assists in 16 appearances.
“We want to wish Thembi all the best as she takes on a new challenge in Mexico,” Racing general manager Ryan Dell said on the club’s website.
“Naturally we are disappointed to lose such a talented player who is a great presence in our locker room, but we had extensive discussions with Thembi and completely respected her desire for this move.
“This is a life-changing opportunity for her and her family.”
iDiski Times reported that this deal was imminent in the latest edition of the newspaper, stating that the 27-year-old was set to earn a mammoth $ 500,000-a-year contract:
