Stellenbosch head coach Steve Barker has addressed their midweek league fixture before travelling to Zanzibar to face Simba SC in the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final first leg.
Stellenbosch in the only side that is involved in CAF inter-club competition that played midweek game as Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns only played on Sunday in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals.
The Cape Winelands side faced AmaZulu at Danie Craven Stadium and managed to get important three points which sent them to third place and kept their hopes of qualifying for the CAF inter-club competition for next season.
“We didn’t choose, we were told [to play]. We only had the option of playing, original fixture was on the 19th. Otherwise if we made the semi-final [Nedbank Cup] we had to play it on the 15th. [The Chippa United] game is scheduled for midweek,” Barker told the media
Stellies are expected to leave Western Cape on Thursday evening to Zanzibar ahead of Sunday’s clash against Fadlu Davids in-form outfit.
