Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki says Morgan Mammila said what he needed to say – in order to inspire his side ahead of their season opener on Sunday.
At the launch of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season, the Chippa United head coach stated Chiefs are ‘an easy team to play against’, revealing they will look to frustrate them in the opening ten minutes and earn a result in Durban.
But Ntseki was not bothered by Mammila ahead of his debut clash at Moses Mabhida Stadium, saying they are well prepared and not dwelling on the past as the Chilli Boys actually beat them at the same venue last season.
“In our preparation, if you tend to look back too much on what happened in the past, you will delay your progress of getting into the next phase of preparation,” Ntseki said when asked by iDiski Times about Mammila’s comments.
“So I think it’s always important for anyone to give themselves confidence and to give his players confidence going into a game like this – but as Kaizer Chiefs we prepare for all the teams, we prepare for all trophies and cups we need to play.”
When diving deeper into their pre-season preparation with a wave of excitement from the club’s supporters after seven new signings, the former Bafana Bafana coach appeared confident they have the ability to turn the corner this time around.
“The preparation is not only about Chippa, it’s about the 30 league matches and the cup matches, what happened last year, they always say you are as good as your last game but my belief is that you are good as your next game,” Ntseki said.
“You don’t know what will happen in the next game, which will be Chippa and after that we have to prepare for the next game, and with respect to all the teams and coaches in the PSL, we are all positive about the new season.
“We are going to compete and give respect to our supporters in terms of performance and then we’ll see what comes out of the next 30 games.”
