Kaizer Chiefs have reached an agreement with club captain Yusuf Maart to extend his stay at the club, amid major interest from Sekhukhune United.
Maart, 29, joined Chiefs from Sekhukhune in July 2022 as one of the most-sought after midfield talents in the league due to his exploits, leading the newly promoted Babina Noko and breaking into the senior South Africa national team.
A creative midfielder with the technical ability to excite, entertain and a penchant of scoring some spectacular goals, his arrival was met with optimism and excitement at the Soweto giants.
While he’s featured 90 times for the club, scoring six goals, with eight assists, and elevated to club captain, Maart has not completely endured himself with the Amakhosi faithful but remains a key part of the technical team plans for the future.
Sekhukhune made clear intent to lure Maart back to the club for the 2025/26 season, with his original three-year deal set to expire with Chiefs, and while the deal looked to be heading somewhere, Chiefs have now managed to secure him for the next two seasons.
Sources at Sekhukhune have confirmed they were informed an option was taken to retain the midfielder, while an additional year on his contract was also agreed between the two parties.
Maart will be aiming to lead the club to silverware this season, with the Nedbank Cup final on the horizon, in the anticipated Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium on 10 May.
