Chiefs On Ntseki’s Job Safety After Fans’ Backlash

Kaizer Chiefs’ communications manager Vina Maphosa has confirmed that new head coach Molefi Ntseki still has the full backing of the club.

Ntseki was at the end of backlash from angry fans, who threw objects at him from the stands after the club’s 1-0 defeat to TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.

The club has since been charged by PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu for misconduct, and Maphosa has condemned the actions of the fans.

When asked whether the coach still has the back of the club after starting the new DStv Premiership campaign with just one point from three games, Maphosa insisted there is no coaching debate this early in the season, calling for calmness from the fans.

“We cannot employ the coach and leave him to attacks,” he told Thabiso Mosia on Radio 2000.

“We appoint the coach to support that coach and give all sorts of ammunitions to go out to the battlefield and bring glory to the club and we’ll continue to do that with any coach that comes to the club.

“Many people are citing some reasons that we employed the coach knowing he has not achieved before. We have raised it as before, even the coaches that brought glory at Kaizer Chiefs, they came to the club and achieved glory at Kaizer Chiefs.

“The last time we achieved glory, it was with a coach that had never [won a trophy before[ had not been supported by the supporters of the national team, saying ‘he failed at Bafana Bafana, why are you bringing him to Kaizer Chiefs’ and he went on to win us silverware.

“You can go to the many coaches that we’ve had before, we’ve introduced many coaches to South Africa that are now having a legacy based on what they achieved at Kaizer Chiefs.

“We’ll make sure and support coach Ntseki to also achieve at Kaizer Chiefs. It is not a matter of supporting him, we’ll support the standing coach of the club.

“We appeal to our supporters as well to support anybody who is working for the club, anybody who is playing for the club, anybody who is coaching the club.”

Chiefs, who have unveiled new striker Efmamjjasond Gonzalez on Wednesday, return to action on Saturday when they will host AmaZulu at FNB Stadium.
