Chiefs Striker Lauded For His ‘Arrogance’

Kaizer Chiefs striker Wandile Duba has been lauded as a player with great potential and ‘arrogance’ amid his breakthrough season with the first team.

Duba has long been touted as a future star of Amakhosi, after starring in the development ranks and the junior national teams of South Africa and is now slowly emerging into a key figure in the starting XI.

He’s currently the leading scorer with six goals in all competitions this season, at the age of 20, as he was eased into the nine role, having been fielded as an inside forward and right winger at the beginning stages of easing into the senior team set-up.

“I think Duba is a player with a lot of potential, as a country, we have problems with scoring goals, and as young as he is – he has a big heart, if you can recall, there was a goal he scored where he put his foot on the line,” Mandla Masango said.

“He nearly injured himself again, but seeing such performances from a youngster, a Chiefs product, I’m really proud to see him putting up his hand, to show he is ready to lead the line. Because at first, he played wide, he played well but it wasn’t his strength.

“Watching him from the development, he used to play as a number nine, he makes good runs, he’s arrogant, you need that sense of arrogance on the field, so you don’t get overshadowed by big defenders. He’s mobile and has a good eye for goal.”

Overall, Duba has featured 35 times for Amakhosi since his promotion from the DStv Diski Challenge squad, scoring seven goals with three assists.
