Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral has insisted Nasreddine Nabi’s change at Amakhosi will take time, saying they won’t be Real Madrid over night.
Ertugral himself coached Kaizer Chiefs between 1999 and 2003, but it was the 2001/02 campaign when his side painted Soweto black and gold after winning the Vodacom Challenge, the BP Top Eight, the Coca-Cola Cup and the African Cup Winners’ Cup – which is to date still Chiefs’ only international trophy, with that season going into history books as “Operation Vat Alles”.

The Turkish mentor, though, insisted the current Chiefs squad is lacking the quality players of the past, especially those who can control the game, and rely on a lot of young players.
As a consequence, and despite a visible change in the first few games, Ertugral insisted that Nabi needs to be given time to see the real change.
“They don’t have these Thabo Mookis, Dr Khumalos, Shabalalas, Letsholonyane,” Ertugral told iDiski Times.

“They were players that can control the game at any given time. They don’t have that. There’s a lot of youngsters.
“But for me, I’m amazed with the way how he set up his team, defensively structure, offensively structure, the standard situations are actually good.
“For this short time, I must say that is a great achievement. You can see there is an improvement, but they will not be Real Madrid overnight. It will take time.”
Chiefs only return to action on 27 November when they will face Richards Bay in the league.
