Orlando Pirates’ potential title party at the Orlando Amstel Arena turned into frustration as a resolute Durban City held them to a 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon.
With +8 goal difference, three points would have all but mathematically secured the title for Pirates ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns – who remain top with three points.
It was a dominant performance from the home side from the first whistle to the last – with City needing over an hour before their first box entry, but defensively perfect throughout the fixture.
Frederick Asare was immense between the sticks, with impressive saves against a Oswin Appollis, Kamogelo Sebelebele and Relebohile Mofokeng.
Going into the final ten minutes, Pirates through the kitchen sink at the visitors but they were rewarded for their endeavours with a hard fought point in Soweto.
City hold firm in eighth place with 39 points while Pirates remain second, two points behind Masandawana.
