Former SuperSport United winger Thabo Mnyamane has announced his retirement from professional football aged 32.
The three-time capped South Africa international has been without a club for two years since suffering a knee injury with his last club Marumo Gallants.
Prior to that, he lit up the Premier Soccer League with SuperSport and the Univesity of Pretoria where he was signed after staring in the Varsity Football Tournament with North-West University in 2014.
It was an incredible rise for the talented left-footed player, who went on to score on his senior national team debut in a 3-1 win over eSwatini, under then-head coach Shakes Mashaba, just one year after his breakout with NWU.
Mnyamane has been working as an analyst in recent months with the TUKS Ladies team and was part of the South Africa U20 technical team in Lesotho this past week.
“After careful and thoughtful consideration, I announce my retirement from football,” his statement read.
“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have played this beautiful game. To have lived my childhood dream of becoming a professional footballer. I extend my sincere thanks to all the teams I have played for, from amateur levels to professional stages, and to the coaches who nurtured my talent throughout my career.
“I will always cherish the moments shared with my teammates, the trophies we won, and the long journeys across Africa. A special thank you to the fans for your unwavering support, both on and off the field. Your love has meant the world to me, and I am forever thankful.
“Lastly, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to my wife, family, and friends for their constant support and prayers. As I close this chapter, I eagerly anticipate the new adventures that lie ahead.“
The silky winger netted 42 goals with 15 assists in 192 games in the PSL in eight seasons in the top flight, winning two MTN8 and two Nedbank Cup titles.
