Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson has revealed what he told Nkosingphile Ngocbo before the midfielder scored his wonder goal that earned his side three points against Richards Bay.
Amakhosi collected their third straight win thanks for Mshini’s superb strike from outside the box just before the break.
After the match, Johnson explained the shot didn’t come by chance as the technical team had instructed the youngster to find pockets and take his chances.
“That’s what we told him, in the first half we told him straight ‘you know what, the pockets are there, you just come into deep to pick up the ball’,” he said on SuperSport TV.
“‘You just have to come a little bit deeper’. And that’s what happened and that’s how he scored the goal.
“Good luck to him and he’s improving and I’m happy for him.”
Overall, though, Johnson wasn’t fully happy with his side’s performance, admitting Richards Bay made it a tough outing for them.
“Not a good game, I thought we struggled a little bit,” he added.
“Yes, Kaitano I though came with a plan. They could’ve scored, 70th minute we got one off the line.
“I thought first half, we should’ve scored. We had three or four very, very good chances, we didn’t take them.
“But this is football, we’re building – one at a time and this is number three. We’ve still got a lot to go and we prepare for the next game.”
Chiefs moved to 23 points on the log, just three behind second-placed SuperSport United. They return to action for the last time in 2023 when they will face Sekhukhune United in a week’s time.
