Orlando Pirates teenager Mbekezeli Mbokazi has opened up after his Man of the Match display in their first win over Mamelodi Sundowns in the league since 2020.
Mbokazi was about 14-years-old the last time Pirates beat the reigning champions in a league fixture under then head coach Josef Zinnbauer but stood tall in a back-three for his side as they held firm with a memorable 2-1 win at FNB Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Relebohile Mofokeng netted a brace inside five minutes while Khuliso Mudau pulled one back in the second half but Pirates secured three points to move 15 points off the Brazilians, who beat them 4-1 in the season’s reverse fixture at Loftus Versfeld.
“We played very well against Downs, we trained hard the whole week preparing for them and we knew they were not gonna come out alive,” Mbokazi said.
“Coach said we must die on the ground if we have to, and if you die it’s fine someone else will come in and do the work.
“We managed to score two early goals which helped us a lot. The second half was a bit tough, but 45 minutes is nothing when you are doing good in maintaining the pressure from the opposition which is what we did today.

“The forwards did their job by scoring, so we also had to do our job as defender and not concede but unfortunately we conceded which is not what we want but we will gladly accept the three points against a good side like Sundowns.”
Pirates have four games in hand over Sundowns and will be aiming to take the title race down to the wire for the 2024/25 season.
