Modiba’s Advice to Tiwani

Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Aubrey Modiba has offered some advice to the side’s new recruit Asekho Tiwani, saying when he gets his chance to play, he should never let go.

The 19-year-old sealed a big money move to Sundowns on what the club described as a multi-year deal after his impressive showing with Sekhukhune United last season.

Tiwani was promoted from Babina Noko’s development side and featured in 15 first team matches scoring two goals, one which was nominated for Goal of the Season. His efforts also saw him being called up to the national U20 side where he was named captain.

Modiba says it’s no wonder Tiwani was named skipper of the junior national team as he works hard, further saying the teenager has a bright future ahead of him, but he needs to keep working hard to earn his place in the team.

“The advice that I have for Asekho is just to keep on working,” said Modiba.

“He is still young; he’s got a bright future ahead of him and obviously it’s not going to be easy in a team like Mamelodi Sundowns.

“I think he just has to have the right mentality even when things are not going your way, just stay positive. Wait for your chance and when you get it make sure that you grab it with both hands, and you don’t give it to anyone else.

“I think that works, you add value to the team. So, I think that’s all I can say, and I think he’s got the right mentality. I see him every day doing recovery there, I think he’s got the right mentality. That’s all I can say. He’s not a captain [of U20] by mistake,” Modiba added.

Tiwani, 18, has started his Sundowns career on a high, making four appearances under Manqoba Mngqithi already this season.
