Nabi Calls For Responsibility But Looks At Glass Half Full

Kaizer Chefs head coach says it’s not normal for a team to get into positions to climb the table and constantly drop points when the chance is on offer.

Chiefs, on numerous occasions this season, have failed to capatalise on moments where teams above them have dropped points, with the latest case in point being the inability to beat a Cape Town City side with one win in 11 games at FNB Stadium last night.

A win would have moved them one point of Stellenbosch in third-place, who occupy the CAF Confederation Cup spot at present.

While the have the chance of potentially securing continental football with the Nedbank Cup competition, Nabi admits there’s a need for responsibility to perform, to be consistent, and to work harder in the final eight games of the season.

“It’s not dramatic but it’s very bad, because it’s not the first time we have the chance to go up and we continue to play well but lose points, if we remember at the start of this season and until now, the same mistakes continues,” Nabi said.

“We have a chance to go up [the table], you lose the chance, you get a chance, you lose the chance – in moments, you need to evaluate, why? What is the problem because we should have won three or four, zero, with big respect to City. But we didn’t score.

“I take responsibility for it, I need to protect my players, progress my players, we had the chances, we have the opportunity to still go up, the teams are close, if you win two or three games you are third are fourth.

“If you lose two or three, then you are maybe 12th – I asked only if a player misses a chance, I don’t need to reprimand him, not like that, but what I’m saying I want the sense of responsibility.”

Nabi went on to make reference of wanting to help your child in school if they are struggling in a subject and said there’s now a real need to change mentality and have a one-tracked scenario of every game for the remainder of this season is a cup final to salvage something out of the 2024/25 campaign for the club.

Chiefs take on Richards Bay on Sunday before another away trip in Kwa-Zulu Natal against a resurgent Golden Arrows side who welcomed Manqoba Mnqqithi back to the club and since secured a draw against Mamelodi Sundowns and a win over Polokwane City.

“I repeat it all the time, I want responsibility, if you lose one game, ah it’s football but it’s not possible to continue to lose, if your son fails maths every time, like us losing points 0-0, we will say come my boy maybe he needs more hours [a tutor] in maths,” he continued.

“Really, we need to analyse this situation, it’s not possible, every time we have an opportunity to go up, we lose two points, but from what I say, we have an important game this week, we’ll speak to the players to lift their morale, give them more concentration for this week.

“If we lose points, it’s not possible to continue to lose points [I told them], we must prepare for this game like a final and I’ll try my best to win, but it’s not a dramatic case, but it’s very bad to lose points like that. I’m sorry for that, the fans and my staff, I’m sorry.”
