Nabi Reveals Condition For Chiefs’ Stay

Amid uncertainty about his future, Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has revealed he will not stay at Naturena “if he doesn’t get the tools to succeed next season”.

The Tunisian mentor ended Chiefs’ 10-year trophy drought after beating bitter rivals Orlando Pirates 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup final.

But the celebrations have somewhat been overshadowed by reports that Nabi could leave the club by the of the season, first reported by Sunday Times, while iDiski Times also heard that Chiefs’ leadership were ready to part with the coach.

However, after the Nedbank Cup win, Chiefs will wait for results of their final two league games against Sekhukhune United and Polokwane City before meeting with the technical team for crunch talks after the season.

Nabi himself has stated that he would like to stay at the club, even though he wouldn’t be shy of other offers.

“Actually, I’m very focussed on the last two games of the league, and it’s very important for the end of the league,” Nabi said on Extra-Time when asked about his future.

“I still have a contract with Kaizer Chiefs, and I believe that if the club wants to continue with me, and to give the tools to succeed, there is no reason to leave – even I could find somewhere else to go.

“But I respect this club, and I want to continue with this club.”

But Nabi also insisted that he himself could not commit to staying at the club, if the management were not to back him in the transfer market.

“But I wouldn’t be honest if I say that I will stay if the club doesn’t allow me to get all the tools to succeed next season,” he added.

“Because they have promised [quality reinforcements] and I have promised to the fans that I want to build a successful team that is going to compete in every competition to win trophies.

“That’s the condition for me to stay because I don’t feel I want to go through what I went through this season.”

Chiefs, who currently sit outside the top eight based on goal difference, face Babina Noko at 15:00 on Saturday.
